Zwift, the UPDATE to the Update:

Released last week, many Zwifters (those over level 10*) have had the chance to ride the new “Road to Ruins” course extension in Watopia, and this week, Zwift has released an update to the Update. Immediately (and unanimously), the course has been praised for its stunning beauty and thoughtful undulating landscapes. Riders also took note of some of its interesting inhabitants (yes, there are sloths), and maybe some other surprises (that I can neither confirm, nor deny), but from what I understand, this latest tweak will limit the amount of dust that gets kicked about on group rides. It may seem like a trivial matter, given all the depth of detail and richness of the new roads, but after all, we simply want to take in all the beauty while we play “I spy” for more of the Course’s inevitable Easter Eggs.

If you’re new to Zwift, this latest addition to the Watopia map comes ten months after the last expansion of the Volcano routes, which means the excitement (see also: impatience) has been steadily mounting.

Also, those new to the platform might not realize that the developers seem to enjoy themselves (especially

around the holidays), and get in to the spirit of the seasons, evidenced by a history of sneaking (more) fun into the game by altering your avatar (party hat anyone?), the three wheel bike

or giving you super powers. Ok, the latter “Harry Potter-ing” through the walls may have been a “happy-coincidence-bug” that came with the trike, but

my riding buddy and I considered it a gift as we made our way through the course.

With Halloween tomorrow, I can only hope that this update “sneaks” in a fun new holiday avatar like they have done in the past. I know some riders still have panic over the size of their pony tails, the broadness of their shoulders or other details, but I personally would love to ride the “Road to Ruins” in some sort of festive holiday costume (zombie or skeleton). However, I do see on the Zwift schedule we have the London map tomorrow, I’m just going to hope our avatars might embody a werewolf (or at least that I spot a couple)… Happy Halloween!
